Photo Marathon 2013 :: SPRING! :: Hamilton, Ontario

The first Marathon of 2013 was over the weekend and it was great for a few reasons:

1-the weather was perfect!  Not too hot, not chilly, not wet….just right.

2-we shot it at the new outdoor studio: our farm!

3-no one got lost and missed their session!

4-there was great variety from session to session–young families, older families, extended families and just the girls :)

5-everyone did SUCH a great job on their wardrobe!   It makes a HUGE difference and you all looked fabu!

6-very, very little crying.   It’s true–I hardly cried.

7-a smaller group!  Instead of 9 or 10 sessions in one day I settled on six and it was so refreshing.

Ok, I could go on and on–but the point is, the Spring Marathon was a great success.  A HUGE thank you to my faithful assistant who made a special reprise just for this session–Rita!    And thanks to my husband for dropping EV-REY-THING to help me prep our property and locations for the sessions.  And finally, thanks to all the new and old friends who booked a session and made such an effort to look swell and arrive early–you made the day fun and easy!

Private galleries should be ready soon–I’ll email you when they’re ready and we can schedule a time in-studio or online for you.

2013-marathon-claire-dam-1ps. Amy I PROMISE there are a bunch of great family shots, but I couldn’t resist posting these two of the boys :)

We had two session with ‘just the girls’ which is always a lot of fun for everyone–typically lots of awkward giggling and really close contact.   I can’t wait for the day I had an all-guys group ;)

You might recognize these cuties from the Fall 2012 Marathon.  This time they brought more family!

2013-marathon-claire-dam-5Another just-the-girls session–can you guess who the star of the show is?

*Special thanks to Aimee for doing such a gorgeous job on Katie’s make-up!   Which you can’t see in b&w…oops.  Trust me…it looked awesome.

2013-marathon-claire-dam-6These kids…I mean, come on.   They can’t stop being so CUTE!

2013-marathon-claire-dam-4Last session of the day–but no lack of energy and affection<3

And please leave a comment if you like what you see…Thank you!

The Van Noords Take La Salle :: Burlington & GTA Family Photography

If the Van Noord’s hadn’t had seven handsome and lovely kids I probably wouldn’t have met my husband.  Haha–that’s bold, hey?  But it was because Mark Van Noord, the 6th child and 2nd boy, thought the girls on the first floor were cute that we were invited up for dinner and I was introduced to Ken–the guy I ended up marrying about 14 months later!    So, thanks Mark!

Anyway–this family session has been a work in progress for about a year now–I’m sure you can imagine how hard it is to coordinate the schedules of 24 people from all over the globe!  Typically when I schedule a session I also schedule a rain-date–but in this case there just wasn’t one.  It had to be last Sunday or else.

Fortunately after about a year of emails back and forth we found a date and a location in Burlington (more specifically Aldershot).    We chose La Salle Park Pavilion because it was on the lake, had lovely grounds and most importantly provided shelter in case of rain.  And boy, am I glad we chose it!   Because it was raining on and off every 20 minutes or so we had to do half of our shooting in the pavilion and half outside under huge trees.

My assistant and I were so impressed by how well-behaved and sweet all the grandkids were, although the behaviour of the adults was questionable.  And even though I prepared everyone that the shoot would be chaos–that’s just how big family portraits rock ‘n’ roll–it was actually mostly fun and barely chaotic!  Good work everyone!

You all are really lovely people, individually and as a whole–and you all look spiffy in blue.

Saiyaa turns One: Burlington/Oakville Children’s Photographer

This family is another one of my special families who I’ve been fortunate enough to work with a few times starting with maternity photos for this little monkey–all the way up to her 1st birthday!

But man, did she ever make me work for it!  I think there were up to 6 or 7 of us, at one point, trying to get her to smile–dancing, making weird noises, making faces, bonking each other on the head, spinning sock-monkeys in the air–but nothing would make her crack a smile.  It was pretty hilarious to us seeing how disdainfully she ignored us, but once we took her mittens off she seemed to feel more like herself and morphed into the little ham we knew she could be.

In the end it was a gorgeous day, beautiful locations and lots of smiles.   Happy Birthday Saiyaa!

The McCleans & Ewings

Last year I had the honour of shooting Tiffany & Scott’s wedding, and the year before, their engagements here in Hamilton!    …and as I type this I’ve discovered that I NEVER did a blog post of their wedding photos!!!!  HOW is this possible?

Anyway–last weekend we all met up again, Tiffany’s family and Scott’s family, for a big extended family shoot!  Tiffany is an event planner by trade, so she brought lots of fun things for everyone to do, eat and enjoy.  She even remembered my big black umbrella that I left behind at her wedding last year!   But she’s also a lot of fun, as was everyone else, so it was a blast working with everyone again.    And how cool is it when two families are brought together like that?

Enjoy the preview everyone!

It’s a party!

The weather gave me another run for my money the other day–calling for 80% chance of rain etc.  Of course, it ended up being really lovely and sunny!   It was busy with 11 kids under 8 years old running around (and their parents), but I think everyone had a lot of fun at Cedarvale Park in Georgetown.  I was even given a tulip by an thankful little model!

Congratulations on your 40th wedding anniversary, Buikemas!  (And 10th anniversary!)
